Ferry sparkles at the opera
10.07.2011
Bryan Ferry delighted his fans with a superb show at the Vienna State Opera on Sunday. The Roxy Music legend performed at the prestigious venue as part of the Jazz Fest Vienna 2011. Opening his set with “I put a spell on you,” Ferry played all the hits of his career spanning across the decades such as “Let’s stick together,” “Love is the drug” and “Jealous guy.”

The British glam pop star also sang a couple of new songs as well as tracks from “Dylanesque,” his acclaimed album of versions of Bob Dylan songs from 2007.

Photographer and singer Hubertus von Hohenlohe, former Telekom Austria (TA) boss Boris Nemsic and a string of other Austrian VIPs were spotted in the crowd at the sold-out opera house.

Ferry convinced with a strong vocal performance as well as his piano skills on songs like “If there is something.” His band not only featured two drummers and two female singers but also two scantily-clad background dancers who performed breathtaking moves to the delight of the goggle-eyed audience.

Ferry did not disappoint his fans after the concert either when he patiently fulfilled all requests for autographs at the opera’s stage exit. Around 30 - mostly female – music enthusiasts waited for the 65-year-old music legend to appear. Ferry, wearing a thick scarf to protect his vocal chords from the chilly Viennese wind, went on to have a late dinner at a city centre restaurant specialising in traditional Austrian cuisine.
